A €500,000 successful application under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund for the Yeats Trail in Sligo.

County Sligo is the location for the ‘Yeats Trail’ project, a county-wide initiative linking and interpreting the most important sites in the County associated with the poet William Butler Yeats’ and his works.  Long known as ‘Yeats’ Country’, Yeats himself referred to Sligo as the ‘Land of Hearts’ Desire’ and his love for the County is reflected in the many poems, songs, plays, and writings that mention Sligo.

Specifically, the project is a signposted ‘Yeats Trail’ touring route incorporating ten significant locations associated with the poet William Butler Yeats and his works.  At each of these sites a unique artistic installation, a ‘Suite of Elements’, will be located, each informed by its site-specific natural environment and setting and Yeats association.  Uniform directional signage will link the sites together as part of the ‘Yeats Trail’.  A dedicated website and trail app/guide translated into three languages will complement the signposted project.
